Menstrual Medicine Circle

Who is this for?

The MMC is for any woman, you might be:

  • Wanting to understand yourself and your cycle more
  • Struggling with menstrual problems or menopause challenges
  • Exploring your creative process – where your strengths and challenges lie
  • Wishing to feel more sure of your place in the world and your own perspectives
  • Looking for breathing space to connect and reflect
  • Or you simply want a place for ‘dreaming into things’, to see what wants to emerge next

An MMC is suitable for whatever life stage you are at, whether you are have a menstrual cycle, are going through your menopause transition or are post-menopausal.

How does a session work?

A session can be done online or in person. It is normally 1 to 1.5 hours long. You would be asked to fill in a short form beforehand, to help me understand your current menstrual/menopause situation and what you would like to use the session for i.e. your intention for the session.

I would describe the basic set-up of the MMC process before we start. The aim is to give you a calm and supported place, so you can connect a little deeper, with your menstrual patterns. It’s your space to feel into things and reflect a little more. We would use the seasonal map of menstruality and life cycle. And from that tap into the strengths, sensitivities and perspectives present there for you. After the process is complete, we would spend some time debriefing what came up, making sense of it in the context of your intention. We might cover one or two next steps, simple things to help can carry any new insights back out into your lived experience of your cycle and your own nature. It will be your own ‘medicine’ to support you in the world.

I know from my own experience how menstrual medicine circles can unlock the inner kindness within us and support us with our next steps.

I’m also trained in practices to support Nature connection, rites of passage and women’s empowerment. If you’d like to know more about these, please do get in touch: pam@thresholdcoaching.co.uk

Menstrual Medicine Circle Development

Alexandra Pope and Sjanie Hugo-Wurlitzer, the founders of Red School developed and use this approach as ‘Menstrual Medicine Circles’. I took part in the ‘testing out’ sessions and group process in their development, and I took part in the first MMC Facilitators training.

For myself I have found the ‘Innerview’ process created and used by Jane Hardwicke Collings, in her work over previous years, with her own perspective and experience, very reassuring on this ground too.

I therefore think Menstrual Medicine Circle’s offer a wonderful space for all women to tap into the experience and arc of their lives and well-being.
