Menstrual Cycle and Menopause Support for Organisations – Our Approach

Although the conversation around menstrual and menopause well-being has opened up a lot in recently years, and this is welcomed, there are still many organisations and employers who want to support their staff better but are unsure how to proceed.  They want to handle these issues well, don’t want to ‘get it wrong’ but lack examples of good practice.

I work with these organisations, to help them create an open dialogue, bringing in some training, advice and practical tools. Often it’s some simple steps, a little flexibility and some better practices which can really help improve workplace well-being and create a positive menstrual environment, better for everybody.

Benefits for Organisations

Reduce workplace illness & time off

Women can feel isolated and alone, while trying to manage difficult symptoms. Because there’s still embarrassment and tension around menstrual & menopause matters, people may give other reasons for their health problems. Not knowing what the issues are, means employers don’t know the most appropriate ways to help.

Retain valuable employees

Managing menstrual & menopause difficulties whilst at work can be challenging for some women. If they feel unsupported or don’t see how things could improve they may look elsewhere or consider leaving.

Enhance employee well-being

By acknowledging menstrual matters and finding comfortable language for everyone employers can help alleviate some of the physical and psychological barriers that people face. A more open atmosphere with small adaptations & adjustments and a little flexibility can improve physical and emotional well-being so much. When staff feel supported, they feel more valued and respected.

Support cyclical awareness

Working with your cycle brings so many overall health benefits, people can bring all their talents and creative energies into their working lives. By honouring their natural rhythms people can work in ways that benefit both themselves and the organisation. Thus boosting staff morale tremendously.

Reduce the risk of employee relations issues

Unfortunately when organisation don’t equip their managers to handle this topic well staff can feel very unsupported and communication can get strained. By introducing some good training and materials to support managers, better practices can be established and much can be done to support a more positive menstrual culture.

Social responsibility

Like the shifts in conversations around mental health in recent decades, bringing more awareness to menstrual & menopause well-being can actually bring benefits for all of us. It helps to break down stigma, foster open dialogue, and bring balance in work and life. For modern organisations, it’s just the right thing to do.
